Super Smash Brothers 4 – Princess Peach

“The power of the Stars is restored to the castle…and it’s all thanks to you!”

Construction Notes:

Lots of long awaited dreams came true at Katsucon 2016! If you were to ask anyone at anytime during my cosplay career what my all time dream cosplay was, they would all reply with “Princess Peach.” Her appearance in the 2014 Super Smash Bros showcased a new level of intricate detail on her classic pink dress.

Quick Jumps:

•Crown
•Wig
•Top
•Embroidery

For this crown build we included loops so I can put bobby pins through them to keep it on my head. The holes were filled with Christmas ornaments cut down to size. The front brooch was made in a similar manner. The earrings are ornaments I modded as well.

15036191_917277238402219_1220719100572404943_nThe first wig was Arda’s Jeannie in Platinum Blonde (CL-081) without the ponytail clip. My most recent wig is Arda’s Silky Eowyn in Honey (SL-056) which is Platinum Blonde’s sister color. I love both of these wigs because they have a skin top part in the front. I made sure to heat train her bangs into her trademark peach shape and trimmed & styled the bangs with Got2B Glued & Tub’n Tile for the sturdier points.

The entirety of the dress is made of the backside of polyester satin, which gives it an eggshell finish, which I thought was very fitting of her 3D rendered dress. The top pattern was completely free handed and refined through many muslin mockups until I got the desired shape and seams I wanted, a zipper up the back side seam lets me get into it.  I bought a gathering foot to do the bunching on the front white part. The collar was directly embroidered onto, using my own files. I custom made the pipping to match the rest of the dress as well.

I can never thank Missyeru enough for lending me her embroidery machine (a Brother SE400)! I taught myself how to use PE-Design to make all of the embroidery for Peach’s dress. All gold pieces were embroidered directly onto two layers of tear away stabilizer, cut and then fabric glued to the dress.

I used Simplicity 1728 as a base for the skirts. I cut out the pieces, put them on the hoop skirt and adjusted them so there were no ruffles or bunches save for the very front. Having a hoop skirt, dress form and a serger really made this a much easier task! The over skirt was drafted out of the same pattern, and cut accordingly. It has lace Stitch Witched to it so there would be no top stitching. Each skirt has its own waistband. The hippoofs, as I call them, or peplums, were created by draping the final fabric and pinning out where I wanted to cut. I then laid out a bottom piece which had no ruffles and attached it so it would keep its shape. It’s stitched together in the front and has a hook and eye in the back.
