“But if I know you, I know what you’ll do. You’ll love me at once, the way you did once upon a dream.”
Construction Notes:

Seifer-sama had started on her beautiful and elaborate rendition of Disney’s 1959 Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent. She’d send me all her beading progress updates and they just made my mouth drool and eyes sparkle! I asked if I could join her and do Briar Rose, I was dying to get photos with her! She of course welcomed me with open arms and we set off to work on 2 cosplays together (I also wore Tess with her Jak and Daxter group that year too!)

Aurora isn’t my favorite princess (Rapunzel or Tiana all the way!), but I do think she hands down has one of the most gorgeous designs. I love all her sleek lines and pointed shoulders in her final ball gown. And her crown! ❤ So many Kingdom Hearts vibes for me. I did not have time to commit to a ball gown though, so I opted for her Briar Rose look, which I also think is dashing!

•Blouse
•Bodice

The wig is a Claudia Classic in Ash Blonde (CL-053) from Arda Wigs. I did very little to this wig to get it into Briar’s shape and I’m really pleased with it! I brushed out those gorgeous ringlets individually to give it the softer waves. Then I trimmed it to the shoulder blades in the back and shorter for the front pieces. Each section of hair does a little cinnamon roll curl at the end to mimic how her hair was drawn. I separated the bangs into the big curl and the smaller sections to be cut. I curled the big bang swirl and pinned it down, then trimmed the smaller bangs and tipped them in Tub ‘n Tile. Her headband is one I found at Target, I loved the chunky size.
The blouse is made from Joann’s Khaki Basic Suiting, with a white 100% cotton for the collar. It’s trimmed in Joann’s lace. I free hand drafted a simple crop blouse pattern with darts along the bust and a zipper in the back. The sleeves are small bishop sleeves, which I knew how to do from my Mercedes build. The bottom hemmed is a rolled hem achieved via a rolled hem foot I had just recently purchased at the time for my machine. The sleeves are capped with little bands and the whole thing is serged. The collar was drafted using Yaya Han’s Bunnysuit Pattern M7398. The final has interfacing attached, and is sewn directly to the blouse with a zipper up the back. I added a little silver rose bead to tie in with her name and giving it more embellishment.
The bodice was drafted using Yaya Han’s M7398, I just ended it at the waist, brought up the bust line, only to hack it away with a deep V cut. It’s fully lined and boned as well. I like to use single fold bias tape for my boning channels. I pin it to the seams, then flip over and sew with the channels facing down and touching my feeder. This ensures that my top stitching is perfectly spaced and parallel with the existing seams. I always use spiral steel boning capped with hot glue. There is a separating zipper up the back, as I’m not a fan of lacing and it ruining her cartoony look. The front V actually has worbla in it to keep it curved against my bust! The final fabrics are Stretch Sateen (95% cotton, 5% spandex) for the outer fashion layer and Symphony Broadcloth in Port Wine from Joann’s for the bodice lining.

Briar’s skirt is made of Casa Collection Matte Satin Latte from Joann’s. I took the front skirt pattern piece from Simplicity 1728 and heavily modded it to fit my pleating and length needs. I was super crazy about getting the pleats looking exactly how they’re drawn, so very much a ^ shape? I let my skirt hang over night to let the bias stretch before hemming it. I used my rolled hem foot on my machine. It’s got a basic waistband put it, with a small zipper up the side for me to get in and out of. Her petticoat is made of an unknown white fabric. I’d guess just a lightweight cotton. It uses the same pattern as her final skirt. The only difference is it’s slight longer and I added a rose lace for the hem.

The shawl was just a yard of Blackberry Solid Micro-suede from Joanns. I cut it in half and sewed the two pieces together to give it more length. The Shoes were black flats I purchased.
